First Month - Building a Character
The course focuses on an intensive analysis of character. The class is designed to deepen the actor's knowledge of Method Acting by undertaking and completing specific creative tasks or objectives. Through scene work with a partner, the student is taken through the analytical aspects of the rehearsal process, where he/she cultivates an instinct for making productive andplayable character choices. The class meets once a week and requires commitment and initiative. Students are encouraged to undertake work in voice and movement in conjunction with this class.
Second Month - Voice, Diction, Dialog - Communicating the Work
This class explores the anatomic structure of the voice apparatus and the proper use of it. The class introduces the actor to working exercises for a successful voice, emphasizing relaxation, breath support, sound connection, and sound release. Advanced work includes the development of mask resonance, vocal ring, resonance blending, range enhancement, and articulation. This work forces the student to concentrate on consonant and vowel sounds and to develop the means for working with difficult prose and poetry. Along with this, the actor will do work on phrasing, inflection, and rhythm.
Third Month - On Camera Acting - Technical Considerations
The class covers relationships, scene work, justification, physical and voice obstacles, text analysis, and character interpretation. It includes the preparation for a videotaped monologue, which will be reviewed by the student and the teacher in order to assess the work. Business topics such as headshots, resumes and interviews will be discussed.
